Guru's March Madness Contest
"The Long and the Short of it"

Listing of Team Prices

A few comments on the prices (which appear in the table below):

  • Duke is the highest priced team, at $G25. If you refer to the table which shows the best possible score that can be attained for each seed, you will see that in order to return more than G$25, Duke must survive to at least the semi-final round. And if they lose to any team other than a #1 seed in the semi-finals, even that won't bring their cumulative winnings up to $25.
  • Notice the discontinuity between the prices for #8 and #9 seeds. No, that's not a misprint. Because a team loses money if it is beaten by an underdog, and because #8 seeds play #9 seeds in the first round, #8 seeds are at immediate risk of losing value if they lose to the #9 seeded team. However, if the #9 seed loses, it is not charged (since it is not the "underdog").

For more analysis on the relative values of the various seeds, see the Tournament History page.

To enter the contest, go to the Entry Form page. This page allows you to build your entry through trial and error, so you may also wish to use it as a preliminary tool to help build your entry.
